Submission information

The Newsletter is intended to provide information on Calls for Papers, Conferences and Research Projects. All staff in Higher Education Institutions in the UK that are full members have their subscriptions paid for by their membership dues are eligible to submit contributions. They should be sent to Webmaster in electronic format, including information that contains details of what where and who can be contacted for further information.

New Directions in Community Dance: a research forum

to be held on

Saturday 6 May 2006 at De Montfort University, Leicester

Hosted by The Foundation for Community Dance and De Montfort University.

This one day forum seeks to bring together community dance practitioners, teachers, students and academics to identify, exchange and debate ideas. The forum will focus on current practice and research in community and participatory dance with a view to identifying directions for future development and possible research initiatives.

Call for contributions

You are invited to contribute to the event by offering a paper, presentation or practical demonstration. (Studio space is available). Papers and presentations should be deliverable in fifteen minutes. Practical demonstrations should last thirty minutes. Presenters should then be prepared to answer questions and contribute to discussion.
A contribution might focus on

• current provision and/or policy

• developments in practice

• documentation of practice (e.g. film)

• experiences of community dance

• key issues for the future

• research from other disciplines

• research in progress

Contributions from professional practitioners, established researchers and new researchers, including postgraduate students, are welcomed. There are opportunities to publish on the Foundation’s web site or in Animated. Proposals should include:

• Title and contribution type (paper, presentation or practical demonstration)

• Abstract of 300-400 words

• Your name, title, contact address (mailing or email) and professional affiliation (if appropriate)

• A one paragraph biography (about 100 words)

• Technical requirements for your presentation

Proposals will be considered by a selection panel and contributors notified of decisions in early February.
